Curator's Note: As part of my job for MOVIECLIPS I help curate the Old Hollywood Trailers channel on YouTube. It's meant to be a source for trailers before the online HD video revolution of recent years. While there's still a load of 21st Century offerings there's a rich archive of earlier films which we only hope to further expand. Throughout the month of October I'm exclusively looking to upload trailers for horror movies new and old.

I love the tone change that occurs in the first 20 seconds in the trailer for The Giant Gila Monster. The obtrusive, obnoxious even, title cards are forced to convince us that this slow-as-tar lizard is actually a menace. Then there's the narrator trying to infuse audience with his panic. "If you're young people in love... look out!" The gila monster has a prejudice against teens foolin' around out of wedlock? I get the feeling that this trailer made audiences mock the screen back in its day. The only reason somebody would give it the time of day in our age is for B-movie escape, which I'm keen to do. It's a fairly revealing trailer but then again so is its title.
